" Philippine Policy to Address Climate Change After Poznan : Towards Building a Coherent Agenda for COP 15/CMP5 in Copenhagen ”
on February 2, 2009 at the Quezon Ballroom, Sulo Hotel, Matalino Road , Quezon City
from 8am to 5pm
The conference-workshop is being organized by Christian Aid Philippine Office, in partnership with the Ateneo School of Government, in cooperation with the Third World Network (TWN), Philippine Network on Climate Change (PNCC), and Manila Observatory.
The conference-workshop aims to:
- Provide participants with a brief review of the science of climate change and its consequent impacts on various sectors in the Philippines , as well as a working knowledge of to what extent, if at all, scientific research was transformed into policy in the context of the COP14/CMP4 in Poznan
- Increase awareness and understanding of the international and local policy framework in response to climate change as events occurred in the context of COP 14 at Poznan , to be related by participants from the Philippines sponsored by Christian Aid (Sandee Recabar and Chito Tionko)
- Build and improve the capacity of stakeholders in the Philippines to participate in and contribute to Philippine positions on climate change issues tackled in the UNFCCC via an evaluation of the Poznan experience in 2008, in order to prepare for Copenhagen in 2009
- Update participants on evolving local government responses to climate change
- Understand evolving CSO policy positions to the climate change policy development the the Philippines , the UNFCCC, Kyoto Protocol, the Bali Plan of Action and the submissions for the upcoming COP15/CMP5
