NORTHWIND'S 25MW WIND FARM INAUGURATION

A 25 MW Wind Farm was inaugurated last June 18, 2005 at Bangui Bay , Ilocos Norte. It is the first wind farm to be fully operational in the Philippines and the biggest in Southeast Asia .

The project was developed by the NorthWind Development Corporation consisting of 15 units of wind turbines arranged in a single row on the shores of Bangui Bay . These turbines are connected to the Luzon grid and delivers power to the Ilocos Norte Electric Cooperative via TransCo Laoag.

The NorthWind Project is also the first project in the Philippines to have an Emissions Reduction Purchase Agreement (ERPA) under the Clean Development Mechanism. The ERPA was signed by NorthWind and the International Bank for Reconstruction and Development through the World Bank Prototype Carbon Fund.

Among those who attended the inauguration were Former First Lady Imelda Marcos, Governor Bong Bong Marcos, Former DOE Secretary Vincent Perez, and Usec. Peter Abaya.

klima was also invited to attend the inauguration. Dr. Roberto Yap, Jesuit priest and Project Director of CD4CDM project of klima, gave the invocation and headed the blessing of the turbines.
